States and conditions
A state says where a terminal is; a condition says why. A terminal in LOGGING_IN whose broker rejected the login needs a new password; one whose feed is stale is being recovered. Never infer from a timestamp.
| State | What is happening | What you do | Next |
|---|---|---|---|
REQUESTED |
Accepted; waiting for room | Nothing | PROVISIONING |
PROVISIONING |
The terminal is being prepared | Submit the credential if you have not | LOGGING_IN, PARKED |
LOGGING_IN |
The terminal is logging in to your broker | Nothing; read conditions if it takes long |
ACTIVE, FAILED, PARKED |
ACTIVE |
Logged in and healthy | Use it | LOGGING_IN, OFFLINE, PARKED, DRAINING |
OFFLINE |
The machine it runs on is not answering; offline_reason says why |
Nothing; it comes back by itself, or is moved after 15 minutes | ACTIVE, LOGGING_IN, DRAINING, PARKED |
PARKED |
Your account is suspended and its grace period ended: the terminal is stopped and keeps its settings, its place and its login | Reinstate your account | LOGGING_IN, DRAINING |
DRAINING |
Finishing what is in flight before it stops, or moving to another machine | Nothing | RETIRED, DRAINED, PROVISIONING |
DRAINED |
You drained it: stopped and not billed, keeping its id, account and settings | Resume it, or retire it | REQUESTED, RETIRED |
FAILED |
It could not log in after its retries, or a re-login did not complete | Read conditions; submit a corrected password, or ask support |
PROVISIONING (a fresh login), RETIRED |
RETIRED |
Gone; its record stays | Nothing | none |
Conditions are a list, each with a code, when it began and what it means. A condition that is yours to fix says so.
